TOBY CELEBRÓ CON OSCAR

Manhattan project es una obra del escritor venezolano Ricardo Garcia, traducida y dirigida por otro venezolano, Oscar Mendoza Herrera quien la monto en el festival de teatro del Middle West de Manhattan, y la cual fue nominada en ocho categorías de los PC Award y de las cuales obtuvo cuatro premios. Como recordarán el pana Ricardo Garcia murió estando de vacaciones en Venezuela, asesinado por el hampa, por una sobre dosis de burundanga.

Trágica perdida la del teatro venezolano. Por lo cual fueron muy sentidos los brindis y las alegrías de la noche de estreno.

Nota, los afiches de la obra estaban colocados en los baños de los botiquines que frecuenta Oscarcito. Lamento no tener mejores fotografías, pero mi camara se me quedo sin baterías.

¿Que son los PC Awards?

Planet Connections Theatre Festivity es un green festival con mas de 50 producciones con el objeticvo de conectar obras de teatro que muestran la diversidad cultural de Nueva York no desde el mensaje si no de la propuesta escenica.

¿Con que obra te ganaste este premio?

Manhattan Project. Escrita por el dramaturgo venezolano Ricardo Garcia (asesinado en Caracas en 2003.)

¿Con quien competías?

Siendo el unico hispano en el festival, nuestro proyecto competia con piezas escencialmente estadounidenses.

¿Que significa este premio en NY y para tí?

La repercusion de este festival 100% independiente en el resto del pais es infinita. Tanto, que muchisimas compañías de teatro de fuera de Nueva York ya están pidiendo ser invitadas para el año que viene.

En mi caso, he sido invitado por segundo año consecutivo con esta hermosa pieza escrita por mi gran amigo y mejor dramaturgo Ricardo Garcia que produjo un gran acercamiento entre esta ciudad y la dramaturgia de mi pais.

The scientific community from Los Alamos is preparing for the first testing of the atomic bomb in New Mexico. One of the main protagonists, a mature WOMAN who is invited to a TV show for an interview, pretends to be more personal than professional in an attempt to reveal the intimate side of scientific people. During this interview the WOMAN discovers that the INTERVIEWER is really a writer and both (WOMAN and INTERVIEWER) end up weaving a story of love and treachery as explosive as the historic preamble that launches the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This is the result, not exactly of the relationship between the two characters of that story: MARGARET and CHARLES, two successful scientist that despite their intense scientific careers, reveal their intimate limitations where their treachery conjugates with, perhaps, that visage of dirty dealing painted on the face of J. Robert Oppenheimer when he said, at the end of his life, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." This all excludes with a secret lover of which we don't know whether or not is welcome, who makes the relationship between CHARLES and MARGARET explode and represents the majestic events of the biggest discovery for the destruction of our species. As Ricardo Garcia said about his play, "At its depths, perhaps "Manhattan Project" would be no more than a melodrama that the author and the interviewer disguise as a scientific dissertation due to matters of modesty."
